Is there an Inheritance waiting for you?

View some of the lists of unclaimed estates on our site

If relatives can't be found when someone passes away then the estate may be passed to the crown. Large companies dealing in finding heirs normally don't put the time and resources into tracing family members of people who've left small amounts of money, due to the resources involved.

Sayhi has now started to put up the details of people who've died intestate with no known relatives onto the website. To view this information you'll need to register to get a password and username. If you believe you may be a distant relative of any person on the site the following information will inform you on how you can make a claim.

Any blood relative of a person listed below who wishes to claim that person's estate should apply to the Commissary Department of the Sheriff Court in the area in which the person lived, for appointment as executor dative on the basis that he or she is a specified blood relative of the person and for the Confirmation of the estate.

The Commissary Department or a solicitor will advise on how to obtain Confirmation and the legal duties of an executor dative.

If Confirmation is obtained, that document and the order of the court appointing the applicant as executor - dative (if applicable) should be forwarded to The QLTR Unit, at Crown Office, 25 Chambers Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1LA along with a copy of the executed (signed and dated) Bond of Caution, proof of the executor dative's identity, in the form of original photographic identification along with a recent original utility bill and original certificates showing the blood line accompanied by a written explanation of the blood line (family tree) in chart form which should be as clear and concise as possible. On receipt of these documents, the QLTR Unit will pay out the estate funds to the executor dative for that estate. Please quote the relevant QLTR reference number when forwarding the original Confirmation document.
