Top Hat's must not be removed. Only black shoes with laces are allowed. In the public enclosures the morining suit is still worn by many.
For ladies, in the Royal Enclosure, mini-skirts, off- the-shoulder outfits, halter necks, spaghetti straps and those with less than a one inch strap are considered unsuitable. Hats are obligatory in the Royal Enclosure. Thers is normally a vast array of fantastic hats on show.
Brief History
In 1711, when Queen Anne was out in her carriage near Windsor Castle, she saw an open piece of land. She said it would be an ideal patch of open ground for "horses to gallop at full stretch". The first race was held on the site later that year, with a prize of 100 guineas. The morning suit was created in the nineteenth century for Victorian Gentlemen. It was tailored to meet the needs of the rider, with the excess material of the coat cut away at the front to avoid excess fabric getting in the way of the rider.
